    The City of Los Angeles Fire Department and Department of Building and Safety have passed Ordinance 171,430 requiring emergency lighting equipment!

    All existing buildings which contain five or more dwelling units with an enclosed corridor or pathway that is 50 feet in length or greater on any single floor, or which has an enclosed stairway shall be provided with permanently connected, battery operated, emergency egress illumination and exit sign illumination. A stairway is considered enclosed when it has three or more walls!

    If the building is four stories or greater then plans for the emergency exit corridor, enclosed stairways and exit lighting systems must be submitted to the Department of Building and Safety.

    An electrical permit shall be obtained and an electrical inspection conducted and approved in order to comply with this Ordinance.
